Preparing for Evaluation

Can you even believe we are talking about end of year evaluations already!? I can assure you, I can’t. BUT, they will start trickling in around the end of April, so it’s time to start thinking of them.

Things to start doing/thinking about:

1. FIND AN EVALUATOR. It doesn’t have to be me, but get on a list. Interview a few. Check out my post on Choosing An Evaluator. Trust me. You don’t want to wait long on this one.

2. Examples: In PA, and all evaluators, require work examples for the different subjects throughout the school year. Make sure you are clear as to what your evaluator expects and start hunting for that Thankful Turkey now….

3. Book List: A book list is also required for PA evaluations. Along with workbooks/curriculum you have been using, it should also include other books your child (or family) has read. Start writing or typing them up now. And again, make sure you’re clear with your evaluator as to what they expect to see on that list.

4. Attendance: it’s exactly what it sounds like! PA requires 180 days. It’s up to you and your evaluator to determine how that should be proven. Now isn’t a bad time to get a solid count in and assess about when you may be done your 180 days too!

5. Start prepping your students now! Evaluators are supposed to interview each student about their school year. Though the deer-in-the-headlights may be cute and mostly accepted for firsties, a 10th grader struggling to communicate could make the process more challenging for everyone! Think self-assessment questions, things they’ve enjoyed this school year, places they struggled, areas they felt they had the most growth, questions they may have for the next school year, or even next steps beyond high school.

TAKE A DEEP BREATH! Congratulations!
You have survived your school year. You did great!
