I’m sure most of us can sit down and pin point pivotal times in your life where you’ve had significant shifts in your season of life. April, was one of those months.
I have known for quite some time that I would not be returning to teaching in public schools. I’ve known for just about the same amount of time that I would also be homeschooling. A few weeks ago I was contacted by True North Homeschool Academy, about a part time position. As their director spoke about their values, curriculum, and team, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
That same week I got the news that my audition for worship teams at our church has been accepted and I am going to start attending practices! It’s been about 10 years since I’ve been on worship teams and just about as long since I’ve auditioned for anything. It’s a part of my life that has sat on a shelf for longer than I imagined. I’ve really felt the movement of Holy Spirit saying, “now is the time.” And if you now aren’t singing the song, are we even friends?

All of this also means that somewhere, balance had to be found. I’ve spent the last 3 years in ministry with Greenlight Operation, bringing awareness and combating human trafficking. There have been a multitude of factors pouring in, and I have come to the decision to step down from my leadership role. Though I may want to be super human, the reality is that I do like sleep. I want to do things well, and to the best of my ability. When I joined leadership 3 years ago, our life looked very different. I’m remarkably thankful to have a team that is celebrating and cheering me on as I embark on this new chapter.
We find ourselves in a season of change. Of blessing. Of growth. I keep laughing that my word of the year is Believe because time and time again it has been proven. This year we have found ourselves faced with unemployment, job searching, and now new jobs for both of us. It’s found us praying fervently for guidance, and peace to make the next right step and going where Holy Spirit leads us. For me, these are 3 major leaps of faith, stepping out in full belief and peace that these are our next right things.

AND LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY CLASSES!
I am going to be teaching Ancient and Modern History Exploration! If you know me, neither of these should come as any surprise. I actually went to teach English because I am a firm believer that you can not teach literature without history, and history without literature. Either way, I am able to teach both of my passions. We will be working through the Ancient and Modern Story of the World books, respectively.
Some things about True North Homeschool Academy:
TNHA is a beautiful blend of typical “homeschooling” and online education! It’s a great option for parents who do not want their children to do full-time, online public school, but maybe don’t want to do full-out homeschooling by themselves. Parents can use classes as enrichment/reinforcement and supplementally, or as the weekly focus in particular subject areas. Not so in love with Ancient Greece? Sign your student up for Ancient History Exploration! There is so much opportunity for involvement in your child’s learning, and gives them the opportunity to build relationships with other students their age, and get some feedback from someone that isn’t you. If you are savvy to educational theories, TNHA is a bit of a blend Charlotte Mason and Classical Education.
There are plenty of opportunities outside of classic academics for students and parents!
The parent equipping group consists of, “Mentoring and discussion that will benefit homeschooling parents of all types of kids. Each week homeschool parents can participate in our online book clubs, homeschool Q&A and even special guest webinars throughout the year.”
Kid’s clubs are, “Creative interactive online classes & clubs that your homeschoolers will love – for all levels. K-12-year-old homeschoolers can participate in our casual clubs all year long. These are not the same as academic classes with True North, but are courses designed for the casual fun learning community of the membership “collective.”
There are single semester and full year classes for K-12, including AP classes. You also have the option of purchasing classes individually as needed or purchase bundles which allow you to get 2, 3, or 6, classes for your student at a discounted price!
